100kg Maple Leaf Gold Coin Stolen From Musuem
Thieves have broken into Berlin's Bode Musuem and escaped with a 100kg Maple Leaf gold coin which has a face value of $US1 million. By weight alone it is estimated to be worth around $AUD5.9 million at today's market price.
The coin is made out of pure gold and it is registered in the Guiness Book of Records for its purity of 999.99/1000 gold content. It features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on one side and maple leaf on the other. It was produce in Royal Canadian Mint and has been on display in the Bode Musuem since 2010. The coin was a loan from a private collector.
